Moments after relieving an Atlantic Ville, East Coast Demerara, businesswoman of a bag containing an undisclosed sum of cash, two gunmen were apprehended as they were about to escape.
According to information, at about 14:00h on Thursday, Marilyn Burning was about to enter her home after transacting business at a bank in Georgetown, when she was attacked and held at gunpoint by two men.
The men arrived at the woman’s home on a CG motorcycle which indicates they had trailed the woman from the bank.
However, while the woman raised an alarm, the men took away the bag and were about to escape when they were cornered by residents in the area and two off-duty police ranks who managed to grab the bag from them.
As they attempted to escape, they reportedly collided with a vehicle driven by a resident. They were subsequently arrested and handed over to police.
A .32 Taurus pistol with 9 matching rounds were recovered by the police.
The motorcycle used in the robbery was also seized.
