CG United Super50 tournament 2023: Barbados Pride thump Jamaica Scorpions by 47 runs
Defending champions Jamaica Scorpions have suffered their second loss of the Regional Super50 tournament, after losing to Barbados Pride by 47 runs yesterday at the Sir Frank Worrell Memorial Ground.
Having won the toss, the Scorpions inserted Pride, who posted 258 for six in their allotted overs. Scorpions, in reply, could muster only 211 all out in 44.3 overs.
After the Pride had lost Kyle Mayers cheaply, Shamarh Brooks came to the crease and smacked three fours and a six in his 89-ball top score of 69. Brooks forged an 89-run partnership for the second wicket with Test skipper Kraigg Brathwaite, who made 45 from 78 balls before being trapped leg before wicket to Fabian Allen in attempting to sweep.
West Indies’ ODI captain Shai Hope raced to his 37th half-century, smashing
65 from 76 balls in which were featured four fours and one six, and partnering with Brooks to add 88 for the third wicket.
Late in the innings, Dominic Drakes chipped in with a vital 18-ball 40 not out. Drake smashed three sixes and two fours.
Shalome Parnell and Nicholson Gordon each took two wickets, for 33 and 41 respectively.
Jamaica’s chase had looked promising, as opener Chadwick Walton showed his experience with a responsible 94 from 112 balls, hitting six sixes and as many fours along the way.
Jeavor Royal made 44 from 34 balls as he dealt in boundaries, smacking four sixes and one four before being bowled by Drakes.
Test vice-captain Jermaine Blackwood was the only other batter to reach double figures, with 30 from 49 balls.
Javed Leacock was the pick of the Pride bowlers with 4-43, and support came from Roston Chase and Drakes with two wickets each.
