Champions Pk United Fc & Sebai Invincible Talons Fc Participation In Regional Playoffs In Limbo
Matarkai Indigenous Heritage Football Tournament…
The 2017 National Indigenous Heritage Champion and double Semifinalist, Pk United FC and Sebai Invincible Talons Fc who emerged Matarkai champions and won the bragging rights to represent Matarkai in the Regional playoff schedule for Mabaruma on September 7-8, 2019 and a shot at National Heritage games 2019 in Georgetown is in “limbo”.
Both knitted teams were reliably informed that the REO Region one, is totally against the Regional playoff because of expenditures that will seemingly emerge from the meet that includes the three sub regions and it will exhaust the funds before reaching to Georgetown for the National Games.
Matarkai Sports Council (MSC) was reliably informed at 16:50 hours on Thursday August 29,2019, that the REO instructed CDO Edward James to travel to Matarkai on Friday August 30 to select 5 players from the Matarkai Finalis to form the Region one team.
PK United FC and Sebai Invincible Talons FC upon hearing the new development, lamented the following opinions:
1. They disapprove the selection of “ Separating in forming a dream team.
2. They are urging the Region for the playoff Stating” it’s tax payer’s monies involved.
3. If such a move is mandatory, why did Mr. Griffith (Hinterland sports coordinator) instruct the Sub regional playoffs?
It was thus seen that the teams that participated in the competition, have funded their own transportation and meals. With the shocking revelation made it could be asked as to why are the talented youths of the region being deprived of such an opportunity.
The Matarkai Sports Council is therefore calling for the Regional playoff with a minimum of 18 players per team, so that the “ best “ team can represent the region as it is their belief that, Sports unites everyone.
