Rhonda Lewis Memorial 20/20 Tournament…
The Tamarind Root Cricket Ground, located in the quiet Corentyne village of Hampshire, will host its third finals for 2018 when the Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) hosts the Rhonda Lewis Memorial 20/20 Cricket Tournament on Saturday.
The tournament is being sponsored by overseas-based Berbician Lindon Lewis in memory of his eldest daughter, Rhonda, who died of cancer over a decade ago.
Rose Hall Town (RHT) Bakewell and Fyrish Cricket Team are slotted to clash in the remaining semifinal from 9:30 hours, with the winner going through to play Whim National Cricket Team in the grand finale at 13:30 hours.
The final will be the 12th to be hosted by the Board in the past three months, while the tally increases on Sunday when Blairmont Community Centre and Cotton Tree Cricket Club clash in the final of the West Berbice Magic Moments Tournament.
RHT, the most dominant second division team in the county, will be led by Kevin Sinclair, and he is expected to be supported by Vidal Crandon, Junior Sinclair, Surendra Kissoonlall, Kevlon Anderson, Keith Simpson and Chanderpaul Govindan.
Former National Under-19 pacer Sylus Tyndall and West Indies female fast bowler Erva Giddings lead a powerful bowling attack, which includes medium pacer Kevlon Anderson.
Off-spinners Kevin and Junior Sinclair, National Under-15 all-rounder Jonathan Rampersaud and left-arm spinner Keith Simpson complete a strong bowling attack, capable of defending any total.
Fyrish will depend heavily on former Guyana Under-19 player Javed Mohamed; and players like Yogindra Chinapen, Anarine Shrikissoon, Yohana Goordial, Akenen Rangasami, Saif Bacchus, Imran Ally and Reeaz Ramcharran.
The last time the two teams clashed in the Lower Corentyne Magic Moments 20/20 final, last month, Fyrish was crushed by over 100 runs.
Whim National Cricket Team, playing in their first BCB final for over two decades, have surprised cricketing pundits with their strong team showing at various tournaments in 2018.
They defeated two strong cricket teams, Albion and Chesney, to advance to the final. Their challenge in the final will be spearheaded by Vinod Samaroo, Joshua Persaud, Yogindra Sooknanan, Tameshwar Harrinarine, Devendra Balkarran and Mahendra Charran.
