‒ aiming to qualify for SA seniors

National sprinter Arinze Chance continues to improve his timings over the last year while running for the University of Trinidad and Tobago (UTT) Fast Track team in the twin Island Republic.
His impact at the institution where he is also studying Petroleum Engineering has been a phenomenal recording breaking feat.  At the recent Flacons Games he helped lower the 400 x 400M record to 3:11.75 after his team had initially rewritten it to 3:14.51 in February.
A back spasm and a strained tendon in his hip prevented him from participating in the Penn Relays where UTT clocked 3:20.26. Chance underwent therapy for his injuries and  without much training, he participated in  yet another record breaking feat, lowering  his signature relay event time to 3:09.62 while running   the second leg at the  Larry Gomes Stadium on Saturday.

Determination is one of the key pillars to the 21 year-old success to date

Interestingly, the time is approximately  six one hundredths of a second  slower than Guyana’s current 4 x 400M record of 3:09.00 which was set at  this year’s Penn Relays by the team comprising of Jermaine Griffith, Winston George, Kelton Cumberbatch and Alistar McLean.
Given his vast improvement in form, the former Bishops’ High School student is hoping that he can churn out his undoubted talent for his homeland by participating in the South American Senior Championship slated for June 23 -25 in Paraguay. The event will give athletes qualifying tickets for the IAAF World Championships London 2017.
“I have to run the standard times at Senior Championship there [Guyana]  in June [ 10th to 11th];  I know have a lot of work to do seeing that I was off from  training for just about a month due to injuries  but I  am confident because I simply love running  in Guyana”, the 21 year-old told  Guyana Times Sport on Sunday.
While he also runs the 200M, his speciality rests in the 400M which he has a personal best of 46.81s. Chance plans on improving that time under the guidance of coach Lester Osouna, to challenge the likes of Winston George who currently holds the National record with a time of 45.25s.
His goals have not stopped at the South American Championships but to also attend the World University Games being held in Taipei,  China from August 20 -27.
