Dear Editor,
The Alliance for Change (AFC) party became subsumed in the PNC party and lost its independence of action and its image for constructive decency. At this moment, the AFC stands on the precipice of extinction, or of being relegated to another UF.
Many Guyanese, both at home and abroad, were looking to the AFC to restore decent politics to Guyana. In the coalition, they never exerted independence of action or insisted on decency, but went along with the PNC, and this caused people who would have gravitated to the AFC to form the various small parties.
But all is not lost. They still have a chance of vibrant survival if, at this moment, they act independently and distance themselves from the PNC/APNU and act according to their old ideology of decent and rational behaviour. They would then be able to speak directly with the PPP/C and the international community.
Yours sincerely,
Paul Validum
