Chanderpaul guides Everest Masters to crushing win
Former West Indies captain, Shivnarine Chanderpaul showed his class on Wednesday with a masterful knock that helped Everest Masters secure a 188-run victory over Hoboken Cricket Club out of New Jersey, USA.
Hosts, Everest Masters won the toss and were out of the blocks in a hurry with openers Basil Persaud and Sahadeo Hardaiow laying a good foundation for the late assault. Persaud made 31 while Hardaiow 68 from 38 balls with four sixes and five fours.
Following their dismissal, Chanderpaul joined Hemraj Garbarran and tore the visitors’ bowling apart with some clean striking. ‘Shiv’ was especially pleasing to the eye during his 36-ball stay at the crease and hit four sixes and five fours in the top score of 71.
In the end, Garbarran was not out on 67 from 49 balls with three sixes and six fours as Everest posted a mammoth 289 for 3 from their 25 overs.
Bowling for the North Americans, Ramjit Singh (1/32), Prakash Persaud (1/37) and Hardeep Singh (1/41) were taken to the cleaners but still managed a wicket each.
In reply, Hoboken CC made 101 all out from 21 overs after they were held up by Man of the Match Imtiaz Sadik who was virtually unplayable with impressive figures of 5-0-6-3. Sadik was supported by Rakesh Gangaram with 2 for 3, Rahaman Khan 2 for 11 and Rajesh Singh 2 for 18.
Ramchand Singh with 21 and Vicky Singh 10 were the only batters in double figures.
At the presentation ceremony, the visitors presented Everest Masters with cricket caps and a plaque for their kind hospitality.
Additionally, Sadik collected the Man of the Match trophy and Everest Masters the winning trophy while President of Everest Cricket Club, Rajesh Singh presented a plaque to the visitors to mark the occasion.
All trophies and plaques for the game were donated by Ramesh Sunich of The Trophy Stall on South Road.
