Chanderpaul puts Georgetown to the sword with masterful ton

The fifth round of the Jaguars Franchise League continued yesterday with gripping action across the four venues. However, it was a commanding century from Tagenarine Chanderpaul that stole the show on day two.
At Lusignan, Chanderpaul began day two on 94 not out and West Demerara in control at 164/2 replying to 170 made by Georgetown in their first innings. West Dem eventually got to 357 to take a 187-run lead on first innings. Chanderpaul led the way with a magnificent 187 decorated with 18 boundaries (11×4; 7×6) from 347 balls and got admirable support from Captain Akshaya Persaud with 72 (6×4; 1×6; 139 balls). Persaud and Chanderpaul put on 163 for the third wicket to grind Georgetown in sunny conditions. Mahendra Dhanpaul (39) and Safraz Esau (21) also got among the runs.
Georgetown’s troubles continued in the tournament but Gajanan Suknanan took 3/89 while Andre Stoll
had 2/50 and Kellon Carmichael 2/35 to show some fight.
Batting a second time, Georgetown reached 74/3 with Sunil Singh stroking 32 and Andrew Lyght Jnr getting to 23 before throwing his hand away. When stumps were drawn skipper Christopher Barnwell and Jahron Byron were at the crease on seven runs each.
Romario Shepherd, Keyshram Seyhodan and Richie Looknauth have taken a wicket each.
At Port Mourant, Essequibo resuming on their overnight score of 99/4 in reply to Upper Corentyne’s 206/9 declared, were eventually dismissed for 165. Former West Indies Test batsman Shivnarine Chanderpaul top scored with 55 while Eon Hooper was impressive in picking up 5/30 bowling for Upper Corentyne.
Batting a second time, Upper Corentyne were dismissed for 201 with Clinton Pestano top scoring with 47 while Kevlon Anderson making 40 and Hooper coming back to score 40 as well. Kemo Paul picked up four wickets while Anthony Adams bagged three and Ricardo Adams two.
Essequibo requiring 243 for victory are 0/1 with Rayon Fredericks the batsman dismissed.
At Enterprise, West Berbice declared on their overnight score of 407/9 with Keyron Fraser on 120 not out and Collis Butts 34 not out. Upper Demerara/East Bank in their reply, are batting 275/8 with the consistent Danny Narayan scoring 72 and Tevin Imlach making 70. Bowling for West Berbice, Keyron Fraser has so far taken 3/41 while Kevin Jawahir has 3/59.
At Albion, the home team, Lower Corentyne were bowled out for 193. Seon Hetmyer made 54 while Surujnarine Kandasammy and Jonathan Foo contributed 46 and 37 respectively. Bowling for East Coast Demerara, Amir Khan bagged 5/69 while Paul Wintz had 3/44.
East Coast Demerara were then pegged back by Lower Corentyne as they claimed seven East Coast Demerara wickets for just 97 runs before close of play. Bowling for Lower Corentyne, Kassim Khan has so far taken 3/20 while Royston Crandon has 2/10. Ramnarine Chatura made 23 and Bhaskar Yadram contributed 21 for the visitors.
Today is the final day and play across all four venues resumes at 9:30h.
