The Guyana Badminton Association’s (GBA) Banks DIH Aqua Mist and Powerade Christmas Badminton Tournament concluded on Sunday December 17 at the National Gymnasium with Ronald Chang Yuen beating national ladies champion, Priyanna Ramdhani in a closely contested Men’s final.
The Tournament which started on Friday December 15 was played off in the Senior Open Men and Ladies Singles and Junior Boys Under-11, U15 and U17 Singles.
The final day of the competition saw heated battles in the senior open Men and Ladies Semi-finals and finals.

Pan American, Caribbean & National Champion Priyanna Ramdhani was allowed to play in the Men Singles due to lack of Competition in the Ladies category and created havoc by taking out current National Champion, Jonathan Mangra in the semi-finals. In the first game Jonathan, won 21-9 while Priyanna came back viciously with superb and skillful play to win the second set 21-11. In the third game, Priyanna who was covering the court like a floor mat won the game 21-5 after Jonathan conceded at 15-5 due to the lack of fitness.
In the Other Men’s semi-final, Ronald Chang Yuen defeated Marlon Chung in straight sets: 21-14, 21-17 to set up the final showdown with the national ladies’ champion.
In the tournament’s grand finale, Priyanna quickly asserted herself and took the first game 21-10 before Chang Yuen staged the great come back to take the second game 21-10. The third set was always going to be ding dong but it was the determined Ronald who countered Priyanna’s aggression to come out of the closely fought game 21-19 to lift the championship.
In the Ladies final, Priyanna Ramdhani hardly worked up a sweat as she brushed aside Shivannie Persaud: 21-6, 21-8.
The Presentation was then made to the respective winners by Banks DIH Powerade Brand Manager, Errol Nelson, who presented trophies and haversacks.
