Charity miner jailed for gun, ammo possession

A gold miner of Charity Extension Housing Scheme, Essequibo Coast was on Monday jailed for two years after admitting to a charge of unlawful possession of a firearm and matching rounds.
Reinaldo Wills, 23, appeared at the Charity Magistrate’s Court, where he admitted that on November 16, 2018, Police, acting on a report of a shooting incident in the Charity Extension Housing Scheme area, went to investigate and during the course of their probe, discovered the arms for which he later claimed ownership. A search had been conducted on a house and one 7.62×39 mm spent shell was found. Two males and one female were arrested.
However, at another house, the Police found one 9mm pistol along with one magazine and 10 live rounds of ammunition. Wills was arrested and claimed ownership of the firearm and ammunition.
He was also fined $50,000 by Magistrate Ester Sam.
