Charlestown man killed after crashing into lorry

A Charlestown, Georgetown resident met his demise in the wee hours of Saturday morning after he crashed into a motor lorry that was pulling out another car from a trench along Rupert Craig Highway, Greater Georgetown.

The dead man has been identified as 32-year-old Stephon Stewart of Charles Street, Charlestown, Georgetown.
Police stated that the accident involved PRR 7175 being driven by Stewart, PKK 9331 driven by a resident of One Mile Wismar, Linden; and GAC 1297 being driven by a resident of Non Pareil, East Coast Demerara (ECD).
Investigations revealed that motor car PKK 9331 was proceeding along the Rupert Craig Highway when he swerved from colliding with the motor lorry but instead, the driver lost control and ended up on a trench in the area. However, the driver of the lorry stopped and was in the process of removing the submerged car out of the trench when the car that was being driven by Stewart crashed into the rear of the lorry.

Upon making checks, Stewart was seen motionless in his vehicle. The Police and ambulance were summoned to the scene where Stewart was pronounced dead. His body was taken to the Memorial Gardens Mortuary awaiting a post-mortem while the drivers of the motor car and lorry were taken into custody assisting with investigations.
