Charlestown sends warning to Chase ahead of Massy semi-final clash

Charlestown Secondary’s Malachi Gowen

Following a scintillating quarter-final round on Sunday last, the final four teams of the Massy Distribution Under-18 Schools’ football competition have been decided.
The first semi-final will see 2025 runners-up Chase’s Academic Foundation going up against Charlestown Secondary after booking their spots for the next round in contrasting fashion.
The Howes Street Georgetown outfit was the first to secure its spot in the next stage via a tense penalty shootout. However, according to player Malachi Gowen, they were ready for anything.
“In the first half, we played with good composure, but in the second half, we came out and played good, but we had some deep holes to come out of, but we thank God for this victory,” Gowen told this publication following their quarter-final.
Gowen continued, “We always prepared for anything in the long run. Reached down to a penalty shootout; thank God for our keeper Shawn Luke. Never doubt him, and he did his work as the goalkeeper.”
On the other hand, it was smooth sailing as usual for the Parade Street side, who overcame their opponents 9–2.

Player Shaquan David discussed the resistance they got from Three Miles Secondary in that game.
David related to Guyana Times Sport, “Well, it was a good game, but Three Miles came out, and they put in the work at first. They had us on the back foot, but at the end, we still came out victorious.”
“It’s very important for the more experienced to step up because big players step up at big moments. So, I personally think our bigger players did that,” the Chase player said about overcoming the tough moments in that quarter-final game.
Quizzed on their expectations for the semi-final matchup, David expressed an air of confidence, while Gowen had a warning for their opponents.
“We’re very confident that we’re taking this one here,” David shared.
He added about what he thinks they need to work on ahead of the semis, “Not really, no, I don’t think we have to work on anything really.”
On the other hand, Gowen explained, “Yeah, we are finishing; we got a little slackness in the defence, but we will work on that.
The Charlestown player went on to send a warning to his opponents, stating, “We know that the opposition is Chase’s Academic Foundation, and we know that it’s a really tough team, but back to the drawing board, back to the training sessions. Thanks, Coach and Miss, for giving us this hard work to reach so far. See Chase soon.”
Chase and Charlestown will meet in the Massy Distribution semi-final at 16:00h on Sunday, April 26, at the Ministry of Education (MoE) Ground, Carifesta Avenue. The second semi-final will see Santa Rosa and West Ruimveldt Secondary butting heads from 18:00h.
