— Masters Academy whip Sir Leon’s Lesson for 3rd place
Chase Academy won their third successive Petra Organised Milo School’s under-18 Football title on Sunday evening at the Ministry of Education Ground, Carifesta in front of massive crowd.
In the short history of the tournament, Chase is clearly the most successful team after winning the title on three occasions in five years.
In a rematch of last year, the victory was not as straight forward as compared to those of the past, having to win 3-2 on penalty kicks after the match was locked 1-1 after regulation and extra time.
Morgan’s Learning Centre took the lead in the 15th minute through a spectacular left-foot missile from Chris Macey from a tight angle on the left flank that raced into the roof of the net to ignite a massive uproar from the thousands in attendance.
The equalizer came from a corner taken on the right side which was sent in on the back post and Shomol Smith leaped high above the Morgan’s backline to deliver a cracking header past the goalkeeper in the 26th minute.
For the win, Chase Academy were rewarded $500,000 while, Morgan’s collected $300,000 – money that will go towards a school project.
In the third place playoff, Masters Academy inflicted a 5-1 drubbing on Sir Leon’s Lessons.
Calvin Peters netted in the 4th, 75th and 88th minutes, while Tyrone Khan added a brace in the 73rd and 81st minutes to complete their tally.
Omari James was the lone response for Sir Leon Lessons in the 20th; Masters won $200,000 while Sir Leon’s took home $100,000.
The tournament was also sponsored by the Ministry of Public Health under the Theme “Stop the Violence.
