Cheddi Jagan Memorial cycle race heads to West Demerara

Alanzo Ambrose emphatically won the first leg in Berbice last Sunday and will be looking to preserve his lead against his rivals when he takes his talents to Region 3. Today’s 44-mile event rolls off from the Demerara Harbour Bridge from 08:30hrs, proceeds to Parika and returns to the point of origin for the finish.

Jamaul John won the West Demerara leg in 2017

In 2017, it was Jamaul John who outdueled Michael Anthony to win the race in One Hour 54 Minutes 30 Seconds. John’s dominance of the race was underlined with him taking half of the eight sprint prizes on offer.
Last Sunday, Ambrose fended off John and Andre “Padlock” Greene to win the first leg. Competing across 53 miles, Ambrose crossed the finish line in two hours, 11 minutes and five seconds. John took three of the eight sprint point prizes up for grabs.
Some 40 riders, including two females, took the starting line in front of Freedom House, New Amsterdam.
