Chief Education Officer “too busy” to address parents’ concerns

Rama Krishna Primary School woes

The Parent-Teachers Association (PTA) continues to face an uphill task regarding their calls and cries for the Rama Krishna Headmistress to be removed or sanctioned by the relevant authorities regarding her unprofessional behaviour, which is affecting the primary learning institution.
When contacted by Guyana Times on Tuesday, Chief Education Officer Marcel

Rama Krishna Primary School Principal Melaine Cornette

Huston declined to comment on the matter even though parents, for months, have been protesting outside the school and the Education Ministry with the aim of attracting the attention of the relevant authorities to their plight.
“I am busy and cannot talk about that now,” the senior education official said in a rude tone.
Additionally, efforts to reach the Regional Educational Officer for a comment also proved futile. Officials within his office related that the educational officer had been engaged in a meeting the entire Tuesday morning, but nevertheless promised to return a call. Up to press time, this was not done.
However, this newspaper managed to contact the Head Teacher of Rama Krishna Primary School, Melaine Cornette via telephone. She refused to speak on the issue and said: “I don’t know about it and I don’t care about it and I’m not interested in it” before hanging up the telephone.
The headmistress has been accused of mismanagement and poor leadership; hence the call for her resignation. She is said to have been verbally abusive and confrontational in her dealings with students, teachers, and parents at the school for years now.
Cornette is a People’s National Congress (PNC) activist and member of the party.
