CH&PA, IDB launch 1st Adequate Housing and Urban Accessibility Programme

The first Adequate Housing and Urban Accessibility Programme which provides an opportunity for Guyanese citizens to improve their standard of living, was launched on Friday at C Field Sophia, Greater Georgetown.
The project became a reality due to the collaboration between the Central Housing and Planning Authority (CH&PA) and the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB).
Present at the launch was CH&PA Senior Community Development Officer, Antonette Bennet, who stated that application submissions for the programme

commenced on November 1, 2018, and will conclude on February 1, 2019.
Bennet also went in-depth to explain that applicants can be registered and interviewed on-the-spot, which will be followed by a verification visit by field officers when the applicants become eligible.
An article by the Department of Public information (DPI) revealed that the programme was started last year and provides two housing projects mainly; the Core Home Support and Home Improvement Subsidy.
The first housing project comprises of a four hundred square feet flat concrete building at a cost of $4M, but requires approved applicants to make a down payment of $100,000 towards the construction. Meanwhile the Home Improving Subsidy provides a grant of $500,000 in materials.
Additionally, persons who apply for the Core Home Support must be living in a regularised squatting area or a CH&PA-allocated Housing Scheme and walk with the necessary documents.
The project will be in four districts; areas in Georgetown; Industry to La Bonne Intention on the East Coast Demerara (ECD), Eccles to Diamond/Grove on the East Bank Demerara (EBD) and La Parfaite Harmonie in Region 3 (Essequibo Islands-West Demerara).
