Christianburg-Wismar return to winning ways as Guyoil Tourney continues
Christianburg-Wismar Secondary finally found their groove back in the seventh round of the Guyoil/Tradewind Tankers Under-18 Tournament, even as Lodge Secondary maintained their spot at the top of the points table.
The first match of the day on the four-match schedule saw Uitvlugt being pitted against Dolphin Secondary in what quickly became a one-sided affair. Uitvlugt got the scoreboard ticking early on, as Michael McKend scored their first in the 10th minute; and his teammate Anthony Benn registered the second 5 minutes later. The score remained at 2-0 until the second half, when Dolphin fought hard but were unable to score.
Ruben Dainty of Uitvlugt, however, had no worries, as he comfortably scored two more goals for Uitvlugt’s 4-0 win.
After drawing their last two games in previous rounds, Christianburg-Wismar Secondary finally got redemption in the second match of the evening, played against Queen’s College.
Tyrese David was the only player to score in the first half, putting the score at 1-0 in the Linden’ team’s favour. However, the second half saw a rain of goals, as Randy Pickering and Tyrese Lewis scored back-to-back goals for Christianburg.
With the score at 3-0, Diarra Thomas came through for QC in the 39th minute by successfully connecting a penalty; but Tyrese Lewis soon had a field day with the QC defence, weaving his way through for three more goals.
Also contributing to Christiansburg’s large tally was Andre Mayers with a goal, as the Linden team finished on 7-1.
Meanwhile, it was another day at the office for front runners Vergenoegen with the registering of yet another win. Facing the struggling Queenstown Secondary, Brentnol Bobb was the shining star for the East Bank Essequibo team, scoring two goals in the 17th and 60th for his team’s 2-0 win.
It was a similar result in the last game of the day, when Lodge opposed Bishops’ High. Lodge’s Marcus Bamfield netted the first in the 17th, and the game remained at 1-0 until his teammate Curt Edwards volleyed another in the 52nd.
Bishops’ did not trouble the score, and the encounter ended at 2-0.
