CIOG distributes 350 food hampers to Black Bush Polder residents
The Central Islamic Organisation of Guyana (CIOG), in collaboration with several local and overseas-based businesses and organisations distributed 350 food hampers and mattresses to the flood-affected residents of Black Bush Polder (Lesbeholden, Mibicuri, Johanna and Yukusari), along with the front-line staff of the Mibicuri Hospital, and Albion and Chesney Village.
In a release on Thursday, CIOG said that the families affected by the recent floodwaters were able to access groceries that catered for their daily needs along with household detergents.
“CIOG will like to extend their most sincere gratitude to the Canadian Government, its people, the Guyanese Diaspora in the USA and Canada, Raf’s Variety Store, CICS, the CIOG’s Canadian Support Group and Islamic Elementary School in NY in responding with support to the recent heavy floods in Guyana,” the Organisation said in a press release.
It noted that the items were procured as a result of donations by the International Development and Relief Foundation based in Canada and the CIOG’s Canadian Support Group in Canada; Raf’s Variety Store; Caribbean Islamic Cultural Society (CICS) from the UK; Islamic Elementary School in Queens, New York, USA, the Guyanese Diaspora in USA and Canada and Jamaat Al Ansar in Toronto, Canada.
