CIOG distributes food hampers to flood-affected Mahaicony River residents
– scores benefit from medical outreach in Berbice
Flood-affected residents along the Mahaicony River in Region Five (Mahaica-Berbice) recently benefited from 180 food hampers from the Central Islamic Organisation of Guyana (CIOG).
The donations were done in collaboration with The International Development and Relief Foundation of Canada.
The families affected by the recent floodwaters were able to access 180 food hampers along with household detergents.
CIOG extended its gratitude to the Canadian Government and its people for responding with much-needed support to the heavy floods in Guyana. The religious body also thanked the Region Five Regional Democratic Council (RDC) for facilitating the donation.
Meanwhile, the CIOG also hosted a Medical Outreach for the General Public at the Number 79 Masjid, Corriverton, Berbice, Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne), on Sunday.
The services offered by the team at the outreach were blood pressure and glucose testing, blood donation drive, general medical check-ups, COVID-19 Vaccination, and medical assistance along with the dispensation of medication.
Along with the medical services, the public was able to obtain wide range of packages that catered for their daily needs that included women sanitary products, clothing, food items and footwear.
The CIOG will like to take this opportunity to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the many voluntary organisations, medical persons and members of the general public for their collaboration and kind support in making this event a very successful one.
These include: Indira Jaffarally; the Imaam, President and Members of the Number 79 Masjid; the Upper Corentyne Road Safety Group; the Guyana Cancer Foundation; Guyana Medical Relief; National Blood Transfusion Services; the MOPH/ Reg #6 (COVID-19 vaccination team); Sleepy South America; Diaspora Auxilium Charity, and the USA Embassy Humanitarian Assistant Program Team.
The religious organisation thanked all the doctors, nurses, and the entire medical team who gave their time and services voluntarily for this humanitarian outreach which was able to render assistance to over 100 persons from the surrounding communities.
The entire team combined their best efforts in assisting with the needs of the public and the CIOG thanks all for their efforts and sacrifices they made.
