City Constable foils attempted burglary at Stabroek Market
A man was on Sunday last nabbed by a City Constabulary rank after he was caught trying to break into a food stall at the Stabroek Market, Georgetown.
This was revealed during a recent statutory meeting of the Georgetown Mayor and City Council (M&CC).

The perpetrator broke the lock on the door to make an entry

The break-in attempt occurred around 01:30h.
This newspaper understands that after the City Constable intervened, a scuffle erupted between the duo.
This resulted in the law enforcement officer discharging his gun in the perpetrator’s direction, causing him to become injured.
As such, he was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) where he was admitted under guard.
Cash and other valuables which he would have taken away from the stall were retrieved.

The stall which was broken into

Guyana Times understands that the stall belongs to Margaret Persaud, who has been operating the establishment for more than 24 years. Efforts to contact the woman proved futile.
When this publication visited the location on Wednesday, the stall was closed.
Meanwhile, Guyana Times contacted acting Town Clerk Sherry Jerrick on the matter of security at the Stabroek Market and its environs.
However, she told this newspaper that “I don’t think I wish to comment on the security measures. What I wish to say is that we do have security systems in place that can provide adequate security to our facility and as a result of that we were able to apprehend the perpetrator”.
