A motorcar belonging to a 36-year-old female clothes vendor has been destroyed by fire after an anonymous individual was seen on closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras throwing a liquid substance on the vehicle.
According to Police reports, the woman had parked her vehicle on her bridge facing south in Hadfield Street, Lodge, Georgetown at 23:00h on Monday, and at about 02:00h on Tuesday, she was awakened by the barking of her dogs before she heard a loud explosion.
Upon checking, she saw her vehicle’s bonnet on fire, which she managed to extinguish with the assistance of some neighbours.
After the incident, a review of CCTV cameras showed a male in dark-coloured clothing throwing a liquid substance on the black Mitsubishi Outlander before starting the fire. He then departed in an easterly direction on Hadfield Street. Police have since launched an investigation.
About a month ago, Police on patrol had stumbled upon a car left on fire at Green Field Access Road (Stadium Road), Providence, East Bank Demerara.
It was reported that ranks from Regional Division 4B had observed a white Toyota Spacio vehicle on fire and had immediately summoned the Guyana Fire Service. A water tender from the Diamond Fire Station had gone to the scene and extinguished the vehicle.
However, by then the car had been completely burnt. (G9)
