Coach Botha confirm Malik as GAW Captain

On the opening day of the Guyana Amazon Warriors (GAW) pre-tournament camp, Head Coach of the GAW, Johan Botha disclosed that the Pakistani superstar, Shoaib Malik will lead the team.

Malik, who led the GAW in five matches in 2018 and departed for overseas duties, is described by Botha as an experienced leader. “I think for now it’s still Shoaib, he was really good for us last year in the first five games he was present; we are still looking for that calm head on the filed”, Botha disclosed. The 37-year old South African, Botha added that Ben Laughlin and Chris Green will also be looked upon to keep the team calm.
“Between Malik, Green and Laughlin that should be enough to keep the guys going”, Botha explained. Green, the 25-year old Australian took over the captaincy arm band after Malik departed in 2018. He has matured as a player and his leadership skills will be an important asset to the Guyana Amazon Warriors.
The 37-year old Malik has a wealth of experience under his belt, representing teams around the globe in 345 T20 matches. He has a high score of 95* with 71 half-centuries under his belt. The Pakistan star has 287 One Day International matches under his belt and 111 T20 Internationals.
His experience and calm headed approach will be an important asset to the Guyana Amazon Warriors in the 2019 Hero Caribbean Premier League. Malik is expected to arrive in Guyana shortly and join his GAW team shortly at the pre-tournament camp. (Brandon Corlette)
