The Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) and Guyana Police Force (GPF) unearthed a quantity of cocaine and marijuana during separate busts on Wednesday and Friday.
CANU said on Wednesday, several persons were taken into custody after they found a quantity of cocaine in a route 32 minibus.
Based on reports received, CANU officers conducted a routine operation at Meer Zorgen, West Bank Demerara (WBD), where they intercepted the minibus.
A search was conducted during which a black plastic bag containing a brick-like substance was discovered.
The substance was taken to CANU headquarters where it tested positive for cocaine. The illegal substance was weighed and amounted to 14.1 grams. The persons arrested remain in custody and are assisting with investigations.
Meanwhile, on Friday, two residents of West Ruimveldt, Georgetown, were arrested during a stop and search exercise along the Weldaad Public Road, West Coast Berbice (WCB).
Police stated that motor car HC 4257, with five occupants including the 42-year-old driver of Port Mourant, Corentyne, Berbice, was stopped at the roadblock.
They were all asked to exit the vehicle and take possession of their personal belongings. A search was conducted on a black haversack owned by a 25-year-old labourer of West Ruimveldt, Georgetown, during which eight bulky parcels containing cannabis were unearthed.
The rank then proceeded to search a burgundy haversack owned by another suspect, a 25-year-old labourer also of West Ruimveldt, Georgetown, and nine bulky parcels with ganja were found therein.
The duo was told of the offence, arrested, and cautioned. They were escorted to the Weldaad Police Station where the narcotics were weighed and amounted to 7710 grams.
The two suspects were placed into custody, pending charges. (G9)
