Cocaine in fish shipper for court today

The shipper of the cocaine-laced fish consignment that was intercepted on Tuesday evening at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA) has been charged and is scheduled to be arraigned this morning.
The suspect has been identified as West Demerara resident Amair Ally. According to the Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU), the man was charged on Thursday afternoon and will be taken to court today.
CANU ranks stationed at the Timehri airport on Tuesday evening intercepted the suspected cocaine, concealed in partially frozen fish. The drug was later extracted and weighed, amounting to 9.366 kilogram (20.61 pounds).
The consignment was scheduled for export to the United States. The company which was used to ship the fish is located on the West Bank of Demerara.
Initial investigations had led anti-narcotics agents to seven persons, who were arrested following the bust. On Wednesday, six of them – porters handling the shipment – were released.
However, Ally remained in custody to assist with the probe.
