Team Coco completely dominated the competition to cop the top three positions when
the 14th annual Victor Mecedo Memorial Cycling Road Race on Sunday.
The race pedalled off from its Homestretch Avenue starting point in front of the National Sports Commission (NSC) after a slow rolling start from Peter Rose Street, Queenstown.
Crossing the finish line in front of the NSC, Team Coco’s trio, Stephano ‘Sunny’ Husbands, Hamza Eastman and Mark Harris locked hands to show a comprehensive domination of the team in the race.
With the race beginning on Homestretch, the race was divided into two categories, with Seniors and the Juniors turning back at Long Creek, and the Juveniles, Mountain Bikers and Veterans turning back at Silver Hill.
Husbands’ wheel rolled past his Team Coco member Eastman to finish the challenge in a time of 3 hours 11 minutes 70 seconds (03:11:70). Eastman finished second, while Harris copped third.
The three separated the pack along the route back, but approaching Homestretch it was only the three riders in green in sight.
Silvio Innis finished the race behind the trio to earn a hard fought fourth place while Walter Grant Stuart sprinted out of the pack to register fifth position and Raymond Newton copped sixth. Seventh place was awarded to Christopher Holder and Shaquel Agard completed in eighth place.
With the action rolling over to the Veterans, it was Junior Niles, fresh off his victory in the 35-lap feature of the Laparkan 11-race cycling, who pedalled past his competition to win the category in a time of 02:19:16.
Niles was followed by Ralph Williams, in second and Leer Nunes in third.
In the Mountain Bike category, Ozia Mcaully copped first prize honours, as Julio Melville finished second and Sean Budhan rounding off the podium.
Adealie Hodge was the leading Juvenile as he out rode second place Zahan Khan.
In the fourth category, Raphael Leung in a time of 03:17:25 rode off with the first prize in the Juniors division. Leung was closely trailed by Christopher Cornelius, who eventually finished second and Dwayne Gibbs Jr completing the event in third place.
The organising committee renewed their dedication of hosting the event and extended gratitude to the sponsors, Macedo Transportation Services for their efforts of sponsoring the event for 14 consecutive years.
