A Colombian national was sentenced to three months’ imprisonment when he appeared before Senior Magistrate Fabayo Azore at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts slapped with an illegal entry charge.
Aziel Sanchez denied the charge which stated that he entered Guyana illegally by means of crossing a land frontier and failed to produce himself to an immigration officer on September 30, 2018.
Sanchez, who had to speak through a translator, explained that he suffered from cancer and only came to Guyana for treatment.
Further, he said that he had no place of abode in Colombia and would usually stay in Guyana’s interior.
The man will be deported to his homeland after serving the three-month prison sentence.
