Completion date for NexGen Golf Academy set at end of year 2021

The proposed NexGen Golf Academy was launched in an effort to ensure that the sport is made more fun and is accessible to students and new players.

NexGen Golf Academy President,
Aleem Hussain

This Academy, headed by Aleem Hussain and Rudy Ramalingum, plans to provide the best in entertainment golf (where both beginning and established golfers can win prizes), while also presenting for enjoyment a unique atmosphere of music, food and drinks, and training for students of all ages.
They said the idea of teaching golf in schools has been tossed around for many years, but will now become a reality, as the sport can be taught as a CAPE/CXC subject.
“We intend to have 300 students under instruction by end of 2020, and hope that we can provide golf as an entertainment alternative to thousands of people in Guyana,” Ramalingum said.
Students will be able to take the theoretical course in a classroom, and then come to the fields for their practical work. A top coach has been identified to become the technical advisor to the program, and will be visiting from Trinidad on a regular basis until the local coaches are certified.
The entertainment model is similar to the branded Top Golf which has revolutionized the sport in the USA. It is designed to create a welcoming atmosphere for all levels of golfers; from those who have never touched a club to the well-versed players.
Two locations in the heart of Georgetown have been identified, and the Academy plans on having its grand opening within days of the Government’s decision to reopen the country after COVID-19.
Top-notch food, drinks, and lots of challenges under the lights will ensure that lots of persons become interested in the sport.
Several major companies, such as Cimgro, Macorp, Copa Airlines, Marriott, Scouts Association of Guyana, New Trend Auto, Nand Persaud Group, are among many who have indicated that they will be partnering with the Academy to provide exposure of the sport and their products to the players; and will roll out a marketing campaign in time for the launch.
Nexgen is the exclusive marketing agency for the new 18-hole golf course currently being developed by CIMGRO in Mahaica. Can you imagine 20/20 cricket format being brought to golf? that’s what Nexgen is doing: less time, more skill, total fun packed into a period of half to one hour of excitement.
Hussain, in a statement, said: “Golf is probably the only sport that allows for the opportunity to exercise safely, since it is played in open air and has lots of distance between players. As president of the Guyana Golf Association, I advise all players follow the Government and PAHO safety guidelines. This is a serious issue that needs all of our efforts to overcome it, and we can use golf to pursue a healthy environment for exercise while maintaining social distancing.
“I have sought permission from the various ministries and organizations to permit golfers to be allowed to play if they follow the rules implemented by the Government. The response, while not officially confirmed, has been favourable, and we could see a relaxing of the rules for golf in the coming weeks.
“From a health perspective, exercising is key to maintaining a good defence against infections, and we urge the Government and sports organizations to make provisions for safe performance of exercise and workouts.”
The new course will be the best in the entire Caricom region, and would attract more international golfers than any other tourist destination. The proposed date for completion is the end of 2021.
