CONCACAF Nations League: Golden Jags, the Blue Hurricane go at it again today
Saturday’s encounter was just a taste of what was to come, and today, there will be a showdown of epic proportions at the St Kitts and Nevis Football Association (SKNFA) Technical Centre, as Guyana’s senior men’s national football team look to tighten their grasp on the top spot of their CONCACAF Nations League 2023/2024 group.
In a repeat of their last outing, the Golden Jaguars will face Puerto Rico’s “El Huracán Azul” (The Blue Hurricane) from 16:00h today.
“I feel the preparation has gone good thus far; the guys have been putting in the work during the couple of days for the last game and this game, we have done a lot,” Golden Jaguars Captain Daniel Wilson said on the eve of the clash.
Wilson added, “We can expect an even better performance than the last game because we come together as One Guyana and we are playing to the system and what the gaffer need. I think we should just look forward for a hardworking team.”
Not only do the senior national team have the opportunity to solidify their spot atop Group D of League B, but maintaining that position could grant Guyana promotion into League A of the CONCACAF Nations League.
Speaking on that prospect was forward Omari Glasgow, who is eager to see himself and team move up.
“I want to see us in League A, we’re like two more wins away from achieving that goal. So, I think after the victory tomorrow (today), we should set a standard that we deserve to be in League A and in the Gold Cup,” Glasgow shared.
“It means a lot because you get to play against some of the top teams in CONCACAF, like USA, Mexico and those teams. So, it means a lot to me and to the team and the country,” the sensational forward added about what the achievement would mean to the team.
Guyana currently lead Group D with a full 9 points from 3 games. Aside from Puerto Rico, Antigua and Barbuda, and The Bahamas are also in Group D.
