Conflict of interest

Dear Editor,
On the matter of conflict of interest in government ministries, another ministry I am urging the anti-corruption watchdog group Transparency Institute of Guyana (TIGI) to investigate is the ministry of Indigenous People’s Affairs.
A principal regional officer is the owner of an indigenous restaurant situated on Waterloo Street.
This officer is using his position at the ministry to devour all of the ministry’s catering contracts for Amerindian dishes with the endorsement of senior officials there and has excluded other Amerindians who depended on catering contracts who are now no longer asked to provide catering services for Amerindian heritage month celebrations and other functions. Is vice-president and minister of Indigenous Peoples’ Affairs Sydney Allicock not aware of what is taking place right in the ministry he heads?
In the meanwhile TIGI needs to launch an investigation into the conflict of interest situation of a senior public servant at the ministry of Indigenous Peopless Affairs.

Yours faithfully,
Edward Bristoll
