With the 13th round of matches almost completed in the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) Elite League III, Fruta Conquerors are narrowly hanging on to the top position with 29 points.

The defending champions, Guyana Defence Force (GDF) are third with 27 points from 13 matches while Western Tigers, who also have 27 points, sit in second after playing just 11 matches.
Den Amstel follow the top three closely with 26 points while Victoria Kings (22) are the only other team to crack the twenties. Like GDF, Den Amstel and Kings have both completed 13 matches.
The action continued on Sunday at the Leonora Stadium with three matches that saw GDF brush aside Ann’s Grove 4-0, Fruta Conquerors squeeze past Den Amstel 2-1 and Buxton United sink Victoria Kings 1- 0.
GDF and Ann’s Grove contested a laid-back first half as the eventual victor drew first blood in the sixth minute, compliments of Shawn Arthur. However, the second half was completely different form the first 45 minutes with the Ann’s Grove side showing fatigue, which led to the opposition succeeding on three more occasions.
Delroy Fraser scored in the 64th and 76th minutes to complete a brace while Sherwyn Caesar ground the clock right down to the end as he accounted for the final goal in the third minute of injury and stoppage time.
In a match that had three goals being divided among two good teams, Conquerors showed why they have climbed to the top of the league.
The ever-improving Den Amstel squad battled to a goalless first half with Fruta Conquerors, but six minutes into the second half, Den Amstel were able to find the back of the net from a Delon Lanferman strike.
Conquerors’ Eon Alleyne was able to secure the equaliser in the 79th minute, but when all looked bleak, Domini Garnett with a stunner in the 90th minute ensured a hard-fought come-from-behind win was put to rest. Of course, that was all that was needed to gain the three points and climb to the top of the table.
Meanwhile, Buxton, who occupy the sixth position on the points table, needled Victoria Kings to move on to 15 points. Buxton are six points ahead of Milerock (9) while Ann’s Grove and Cougars FC both have six points and NA United are last with only four points.
Dillon Wright was the star of the evening for the Buxtonians with his 36th minute goal which the opposition had no answer for.
