Western Tigers and Fruta Conquerors recorded wins at the Georgetown Football Club Ground on Friday night when they took on New Amsterdam and Milerock FC in the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) Elite League III. In the opening showdown Conquerors squeezed past the Berbician side 2 -1 then Western Tigers devoured their Linden-based opponents 4 – 0 in the feature.
Tigers were in a no nonsense mood as they drew first blood in the 30th minute through Gregory ‘Jackie Chan’ Richardson then doubled their lead in the 42nd minute when Dennis Edwards found the back of the net.
Resuming the second 45 minutes comfortably ahead, Tigers found themselves with a fighting New Amsterdam side who pulled one back in the 66th minute compliments of Colric Beckles.
However, Beckles’ effort was overshadowed with goals from Anthony ‘Awo’ Abrams and Anthony Benefeild who scored in the 77th and 80th minutes, respectively.
Today, the action continues at the Camp Ayanganna Ground from 17:30 hrs with another scheduled double header.
Defending Champions, Guyana Defence Force will look to keep their current position as League leaders when they host Buxton United Football Club while Den Amstel takes on Victoria Kings.
