Caribbean Club Shield 2019…
The Fruta Conquerors are at the bottom of Group ‘A’ in the second edition of the CONCACAF Caribbean Club Shield, after suffering a loss and playing to a draw in the first two of three preliminary matches.
On Friday, April 5, Conquerors opened their campaign against Scholars International at the Ergilio Hato Stadium in Curacao, and were defeated 2 – nil. On Sunday, the Tucville-based side battled to a nil-all draw against Jong Holland at the same venue, which is home to Jong Holland. Today, Conquerors are scheduled to play their final Group ‘A’ match, against Santiago de Cuba at the Dr Antoine Maduro Stadium.
Scholars International lead Group ‘A’ with a win and a draw, while Jong Holland and Santiago de Cuba both have two draws. There is still a slim chance Conquerors can advance if they manage to score a win in their final preliminary match.
The quarterfinals are slated for April 11, with the semifinals and final billed for April 13 and 15 respectively. The winner of the Caribbean Shield will have opportunity to face the fourth-place finisher of the 2019 Flow CONCACAF Caribbean Club Championship in a playoff match to determine the fourth Caribbean representative in the 2019 Scotiabank CONCACAF League.
