Construction of women’s home, community centres to commence soon

The clearing of lands to facilitate the construction of a women’s home and several community centres in Linden, Region 10 (Upper Demerara-Berbice) has been completed, with construction expected to commence later this month.
This comes a year after the announcement by Linden Mayor Waneka Arrindell that the United States (US) Armed Forces Southern Command (New Horizons) will be pursuing the initiative in collaboration with Government.
US Army and civil engineers are expected to commence construction this month, as part of “Exercise New Horizon 2019”.

The women’s shelter is expected to cater for abused women seeking help, while the community centres, one which is to be built at Amelia’s Ward, Mackenzie; and the other at Blueberry Hill, Wismar, will be recreational spaces for the community’s youths.
