Construction worker charged for attempting to kill Linden businessman

A construction worker was on Thursday slapped with an attempted murder charge and appeared at the Linden Magistrate’s Court.

Reports are that on September 23 the 53-year-old construction worker, of Lot 178 Blueberry Hill, Wismar, Linden, shot Somersall four times at Wismar Housing Scheme in Linden, Region 10 (Upper Demerara-Berbice).
It is alleged that Croal shot Somersall about 21:00h at the businessman’s home, where he operates a shop. According to reports, the two had a misunderstanding around 19:00h the same evening and Croal left, but some two hours after, he returned and allegedly opened fire on the businessman.
Somersall told Police that he then felt something hit him and he began feeling burning sensations about his body. He was shot once to his abdomen and three times to his right hand. The businessman was rushed to the Linden Hospital Complex, where he underwent emergency surgery. Police said two warheads and two suspected 9mm spent shells were recovered at the scene by detectives.
On Thursday, Croal appeared via Zoom before Magistrate Wanda Fortune, and the charge was read to him and he was remanded to prison.
The court was informed that Somersall was still hospitalised.
