Construction worker killed in Banks DIH building collapse laid to rest
“Tell daddy to open his eyes.” Those were the cries of the four children of 25-year-old Anthony Lowe of Mocha Arcadia, East Bank Demerara (EBD), who died one week after a section of a building collapsed at Banks DIH Limited, on July 8, injuring him and four others.
Family and friends of Lowe gathered at Sandy’s Funeral Home in Georgetown on Saturday to reflect on the young man’s life. The dead man’s family was inconsolable and still in shock, as they asked the questions “How?” and “Why?”
His children were in tears, asking if their father would be able to open his eyes to see them. They are too young to understand that it was the last time they were physically seeing him.
When Lowe left his wife and four children for work on that fateful day, he was full of life, and his family had no clue that he would not return.
However, a few hours into the day, his wife received a call that while he and his colleagues were in the process of demolishing a building at Banks DIH Limited, the structure collapsed, trapping them under it.
The men were taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC), where Jagmohan Bissessar, 61, of La Parfaite Harmonie, West Bank Demerara, was pronounced dead on arrival.
Lowe was admitted in a critical condition in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the medical facility, while the others were treated for minor injuries and sent away.
The father of four never regained consciousness as it was reported that he had suffered severe injuries to his brain and lungs.
Lowe left to mourn his pregnant wife, four young children, mom, siblings and many relatives.
