Construction worker on bail for stealing cellphone

Asif Narine was placed on ,000 bail after he was allegedly caught red-handed stealing a cellular phone valued ,000 at Main Street, Georgetown.

It is alleged that Narine stole the phone on May 8 from Latesha Khadeer.

Narine, who was represented by Attorney Stanley Moore, pleaded not guilty to the charge when it was read to him by Magistrate Leron Daly.

The Prosecutor objected to bail on the grounds that the accused was reportedly caught removing the charging phone, reportedly making good his escape thereafter.

He was subsequently apprehended by Police after persons raised an alarm and the cellphone was recovered in his possession.

The court heard that the accused is a 36-year-old construction worker of Eccles, East Bank Demerara. He returns to court on June 2.
