Construction worker remains critical

The construction worker who was injured after a building collapsed on Wednesday at Industrial Estate, Ruimveldt, Georgetown, remains in critical condition at the Georgetown Public Hospital.

Anthony Lowe, 25, of Mocha Arcadia, East Bank Demerara (EBD), suffered trauma to the head as well as internal injuries which have affected his lungs.
Relatives of his co-worker, 61-year-old Jagmohan Bissessar, who was injured in the same incident and succumbed on Wednesday afternoon are currently making funeral arrangements. He resided at Parfaite Harmonie, West Bank Demerara (WBD).
Guyana Times had reported that the warehouse building owned and operated by Banks DIH Limited collapsed during a demolition exercise.
Based on reports received, the incident occurred around 13:00h on the day in question. After the building collapsed, the men were reportedly trapped under the debris for some time before they were rescued.
After they were pulled out, the workers were taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital to seek medical attention.
Bissessar was pronounced dead on arrival. The men were employed with Home Design, a construction company that was contracted to facilitate the demolition.
