Dead: Shawn LaFleur

A construction worker was today remanded to prison for allegedly killing one of two men who were murdered at Angoy’s Avenue in New Amsterdam on Sunday.
26-year-old Gregory DeYoung of High Dam, Caracas, West Canje, Berbice, appeared before Magistrate Michelle Matthias at the New Amsterdam Magistrates’ Court on Friday, where he was charged with murder.
The construction worker was not required to plea to the indictable charge, which stated that on Sunday, May 4, 2025, he murdered Shawn LaFleur.
Police Prosecutor, Sergeant Winston Polias, told the court that the postmortem report was outstanding, and asked the court for two weeks to present it. He said the prosecution will be ready to commence the trial when it becomes available.

Remanded: Gregory DeYoung

The case has been adjourned to June 2, when the police will be expected to present a report on their readiness. As a consequence, DeYoung, who was unrepresented during the hearing, was remanded until June 2.
The police had reported that the incident on Sunday left two men dead: Shawn LaFleur and Leon Fordyce, while a female, Angelisha Newyear was injured with stab wounds.
According to police, at about 22:30h, Neon DeYoung was involved in an argument with Angelisha Newyear, about threats made by her 26-year-old son, Gregory DeYoung.
According to the police, the argument escalated and Neon DeYoung was stabbed in the abdomen, and Fordyce reportedly received a blow to his head.
Fordyce was pronounced dead on arrival at the New Amsterdam Hospital.
During the incident, LaFleur was also stabbed and was taken to the New Amsterdam Hospital before being transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPHC). However, while being transported, he too succumbed to his injuries.
Newyear, who was also stabbed, is the mother of the accused, Gregory DeYoung, and the wife of Leon Fordyce. She claims she was the intended target.
Meanwhile, police have reportedly arrested one person concerning the death of Leon Fordyce. That investigation is ongoing.
