Contraband items found during prison raids at Timehri, NA

The Joint Services Unit recently conducted searches at the New Amsterdam and Timehri Prisons during which a number of contraband items were unearthed.
Police stated that during their search at the New Amsterdam Prison, 25 grams of cannabis, two cell phones, one Digicel SIM card, a number of cell phone chargers, a number of cigarettes, and a number of lighters were found.
Meanwhile, a search conducted by Police ranks of the Guyana Defence Force (GDF), along with prison officers at the Timehri Prison, East Bank Demerara (EBD), unearthed six cell phones, a lighter, a quantity of “strong wine” in 10 assorted bottles, a quantity of cement, one cell phone battery, one cell phone headpiece, four improvised weapons, 40 razor blades, a cell phone charger and a cell phone adapter.

Only two days it was reported that several mobile phones, improvised weapons and other gadgets were found in the holding bay and compound of the Georgetown Prison.
The search, which was conducted by Police and members of the Guyana Prison Service, started at 06:30h and ended at about 11:00h. During the raid, nine cell phones, one cell phone battery, four cell phone chargers, 10 cigarette lighters, five improvised weapons and one knife were unearthed.

The items that were found at the Timehri Prison

In addition, a search was also conducted at the Mazaruni Prison by members of the Guyana Police Force and prison officials, which lasted about five hours. During that search, the ranks unearthed 34 used razor blades, 21 improvised weapons, three knives, one pair of scissors, one mobile phone, 18 cigarette lighters, seven bottles of fermented wine, three makeshift chargers, eight packs of playing cards, a quantity of cement mix with sand, a container of cream paint and four cigarettes.
