Contraband items unearthed during raid at NA Prison
A search conducted in the male and female dormitories of the New Amsterdam Prison unearthed a quantity of contraband items. The search commenced at about 05:30h and ended at about 10:00h.
The contraband items include 1045 grams of cannabis, 15 cell phones, several lighters, phone charges, a quantity of razor blades, 3 mirrors and a tattoo machine.
Earlier in the year, ranks of the Joint Services conducted a search at the New Amsterdam and Mazaruni Prisons as well as the Holding Bays of the Lusignan Prison and found a range of prohibited items.
Among the items were 23 cellular phones; 16 phone chargers; 7 earpieces as well as 6 smoking utensils.
The contraband items found during Wednesday’s raid
Additionally, 3 SIM cards; one memory card; 27 metal spoons; two metal plates; 48 lighters; a quantity of razor blades and construction nails; six batteries; a quantity of small-sized ziplock bags; six grams of cannabis; one pack of bamboo; two pairs of scissors; one glass bottle; four bottles of locally-made wine; a quantity of wires; one speaker; one whistle; one screwdriver; three mirrors; three nail clippers; one tweezer; one grater; one bottle nail polish; 10 empty tins and 28 improvised weapons were found during the raids.
