Convicted drug smuggler busted with imported ganja, ammo at Eccles

Convicted drug trafficker Rohan Rambarran, called “Sauce”

Convicted drug trafficker Rohan Rambarran, called “Sauce”, of Eccles Housing Scheme, EBD, was on Friday busted at Eccles, East Bank Demerara with a large quantity of the foreign marijuana called “creepy” and several rounds of ammunition.
The Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) has said that, on the day in question, its agents were conducting an operation at Eccles Housing Scheme when they intercepted a motor vehicle being driven by Rambarran. He was the lone occupant of the vehicle, and
a search of the vehicle unearthed five large bales wrapped in black plastic. An inspection of the bales uncovered 250 brick-like parcels of cannabis.

Following this discovery, Rambarran was escorted to his home, where a further search was conducted, and seven rounds of 9mm ammunition were found in a magazine.
Rambarran was arrested and taken to CANU Headquarters, where the cannabis tested positive as ‘creepy’.
Rambarran and four others had been convicted in December 2009 for the importation into Barbados, possession, and trafficking of 91.3kilos of cannabis and 119.4kilos of cocaine. The narcotics were found in a consignment of logs on November 29, 2005.

Rambarran had been sentenced to 25 years for trafficking cannabis and 30 years for trafficking cocaine, but the sentences were to be served concurrently. His attorney had, however, appealed the conviction and sentence in 2010, and the matter was heard in 2014.
On August 29, 2019, the Barbados Court of Appeal had ordered the release of Rambarran on time served, and he was subsequently deported to Guyana.
