Convicted robber escapes from Lusignan Prison

Escapee: Ronaldo Parris

Authorities are currently engaged in a search operation for Ronaldo Parris, a 23-year-old convict who successfully escaped from the Lusignan Prison on the East Coast of Demerara (ECD).
Parris made the brazen move on Tuesday at about 02:00h, prompting law enforcement officials to launch an immediate manhunt.
Parris was assigned to Unit 4 within the facility, where he resided alongside a group of individuals with mental illnesses. He reportedly climbed onto a sink to get out of the holding unit after which he scaled the eastern fence of the prison compound.
Prior to his escape, Parris had been serving sentences for two counts of armed robbery. The incident has sparked heightened concern among authorities, who are diligently working to locate and apprehend the fugitive.
This is the second escape from the Lusignan Prison in the last year. In February 2022, 19-year-old Kavin Singh escaped from the Lusignan Prison while waiting at the institution’s virtual court compound.
Singh, who was foot-cuffed at the time, asked to use the washroom. Permission was granted but the prisoner went to use the washroom unsupervised. The prison officer said that upon his return to the washroom, he discovered the inmate missing, and an alarm was raised. He was recaptured one day after his escape at Good Hope, ECD.
