Home News Cop, 1 other injured after jeep collides with motorcycle
A motorcyclist and his pillion rider are now injured after a jeep collided with their vehicle on the Ogle Access Road, East Coast Demerara (ECD) on Wednesday evening.
The injured men are Leroy Forde, 21, of Graham Street, Plaisance, ECD and Quain Whyte, 20, a Police Constable of Section ‘C’ South Turkeyen, Georgetown.
The Police have said that on the day in question, at about 19:00h, the jeep PJJ 5014, being driven by a 40-year-old resident of Area H Ogle, ECD, was proceeding south along the Ogle Access Road while motorcycle CH 5797 was proceeding in the opposite direction with the pillion rider wearing no safety helmet. As both vehicles approached each other, the jeep swerved across the road and into the path of the motorcycle, thus causing a collision.
As a result of that collision, Leroy Forde, the driver of the motorcycle, and Quain Whyte, the pillion rider, fell onto the roadway and sustained injuries about their bodies.
They were both picked up in a conscious state by public-spirited citizens and taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where they were examined.
Forde reportedly suffered a broken right leg and injuries to other parts of his body, while Whyte sustained injuries to his neck. They have both been admitted as patients at that medical facility.
A breathalyser test conducted on the driver of the jeep proved his alcohol consumption was above the legal limit. He has been arrested as investigations continue.
