Cop charged for causing death by dangerous driving

A Police Officer attached to Police Headquarters, Eve Leary, Georgetown, was on Wednesday charged with causing death by dangerous driving.
Corporal Errol Rowney, 28, of Lot 17 William Street, Kitty, Georgetown, was placed on $500,000 bail when he appeared at the Fort Wellington Magistrate’s Court.
During his court appearance on Wednesday, Prosecutor Rochelle Mars told the court that the accident occurred on May 20, 2017, at Number 28 Village, West Coast Berbice.
She said Rowney was driving motor car bearing registration plate number PTT 2200 and at about 17:40h, he collided with motor car PSS 1675 being driven by Errol Nicholson; a 56-year-old businessman of Number 28 Village.
Nicholson received injuries and was hospitalised and subsequently died.
However, the Cop denied the charge. The case will continue on July 5 before Magistrate Rhondel Weaver.
Rowney was represented by Attorney Tejnarine Ramroop.
