Cop critical after being struck down, run over by drunken driver

A Police officer is now battling for his life after he was struck down by a speeding car while on duty. That car was being driven by a drunken driver, who fled the scene and later collided with another vehicle.
Injured is Sergeant Rajendra Major, 41, of Cummings Park, Sophia, Greater Georgetown.
The accident occurred at about 23:20h on the western carriageway of the Peters Hall Public Road, East Bank Demerara (EBD).
Reports are that the accident involved motorcycle CL 477, driven by Major and owned by the Guyana Police Force; motorcar PSS 3327, driven by a 36-year-old man of Eccles, EBD; and motor jeep PHH 9496, driven by a 39-year-old of West Ruimveldt, Georgetown.
Police have since said that Sergeant Major was on his motorcycle, proceeding north along the western drive lane of the Peters Hall Public Road, and as he approached the intersection of the Peters Hall Public Road and the Demerara Harbour Bridge Access Road, motorcar PSS 3227, being driven at a fast rate of speed, collided with him.
This caused the sergeant to be flung into the air, and he landed on the windscreen of the car before falling onto the road surface, where he sustained injuries.
Instead of rendering assistance, the driver of the motorcar drove over the cop and continued driving onto the Bagotstown Public Road, EBD. He then collided with motor jeep PHH 9496, which was proceeding on the western drive lane, causing the said vehicle to turn turtle and later ending up in a nearby trench.
Again, instead of rendering assistance, this driver continued further onto the Eccles Public Road, where he ended up in a nearby trench in the vicinity of Kenrick Auto Sales.
Sergeant Major was picked up by public spirited citizens in an unconscious state, and taken to the Georgetown Public, where he was admitted a patient in critical condition.
At the time of the accident, motor jeep PHH 9496 had three occupants, and they were taken to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre, where they were all treated for minor injuries and sent away.
The driver of motorcar PSS 3227 was arrested and placed into custody. A breathalyzer test conducted on him found 79 and 146 micrograms of alcohol in his breath. (G9)
