Cop dies after crashing into motorcycle at Leguan

Police Constable Shaquild Wilford of Mahaicony, East Coast Demerara met his demise when the motorcycle he was driving on patrol duty collided with another motorcycle on the Essequibo island of Leguan on Saturday morning.

Based on reports received, the bike the late constable was driving collided with another motorcycle that was backing out of a yard along the Success Access Road. He sustained severe injuries to the head and was rushed to the Leguan Medical Centre, where he was treated and referred to the Georgetown Public Hospital. He reportedly died en route to city.
The rider of the other bike, Mahindra Dhanpaul, received minor injuries and is presently in Police custody assisting with the investigations.
This 20-year-old Policeman had served in the GPF for the past two years, and had been stationed at the Leguan Police Station for the past three months.
On Friday, police rank 22-year-old Khrystania Yasin, also called ‘Delon’, of Lot 3-5 Sookdeo Street, Vryheid, West Canje Berbice, succumbed at the New Amsterdam Hospital to the injuries he sustained after colliding with a mentally ill woman who was pushing a stolen bicycle along the East Coast Berbice Highway. This constable had been stationed at the Whim Police Station.
He was reportedly heading home on his motorcycle, CG 7801, when he collided with 27-year-old Youlander Collins of Dazzel Housing Scheme, East Coast Demerara.
The woman was at the time pushing the bicycle she had allegedly stolen from the Fort Canje Psychiatric Hospital in a quest to escape from the mental institution.
Following that collision, both injured persons were rushed to the New Amsterdam Hospital, where Yasin died while Collins was transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPHC). She reportedly sustained a broken leg.
