Cop hospitalised with head injuries after being struck by car

A police constable attached to the Tactical Services Unit (TSU) is now in a critical condition at the hospital after a taxi driver slammed into him while he was riding his motorcycle on Friday afternoon.
The injured rank has been identified as 23-year-old Steffon Beckles.
According to Police reports, the policeman received head injuries and other wounds about his body as a result of the accident which occurred at about 13:15h Friday.
Beckles was reportedly riding motorcycle CG 4137 on Vlissengen Road and Norton Street, Georgetown, when a motor car with license number HB 9969 collided with his motorbike.
At the time of the accident, the taxi was being driven by a 68-year-old taxi driver from Albouystown, Georgetown. The motorcycle was proceeding east along the northern side of Norton Street, approaching Vlissengen Road, while motor car HB 9969 was proceeding south along the western side of Vlissengen Road. According to Police, as the car approached the intersection of Norton Street, the driver failed to stop and drove into the path of motorcycle CG 4137, which was being ridden by Beckles.
This resulted in the car colliding with the right-side front fender of the bike, causing the cop to fall onto the road. He received injuries to his head and other parts of his body. The injured rank was picked up by public-spirited citizens, placed in an ambulance and taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC). The taxi driver was arrested and remains in custody, assisting with further investigations. (G9)
