Cop on self-bail for assault

A Police Constable, attached to the Special Branch at Houston on the East Bank of Demerara, was brought before the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts on Thursday to face a charge of assault, dating back to 2015.

An unshackled Dwayne Dudson stood before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan, who read the charge which stated that on October 16, 2015 at the National Park, Thomas Lands, Georgetown, he unlawfully and maliciously inflicted grievous bodily harm on the person of Donald Mahadeo.

He pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The legal representative of Dudson stated that the 26-year-old resided in South Ruimveldt, Georgetown, with his wife and child.

According to information reaching Guyana Times the defendant has a twin brother who was previously charged with the offence, as authorities were unsure who the guilty party was.

Dudson walked out of the courtroom on his own recognisance, as the prosecution made no objection to bail.

He will return to court on May 22, 2017.
