Cop, pillion rider killed in Essequibo accident

An accident that occurred at Airy Hall Public Road, Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam) on Sunday night left a policeman and another man dead.
The dead men have been identified as Ramesh Das, who was attached to the Court Superintendent’s Office in Police Regional Division Two, and 23-year-old Zameer Ali. They both resided at Anna Regina Housing Scheme.
At the time of the accident, Das was riding the motorcycle with Ali as his pillion rider. However, as they were heading along the Airy Hall Public Road, the motorcycle collided with a motor car, PYY 7890.

The driver of the car, Mahendra Raj, told traffic investigators that the motorcycle ended up in his path, thus causing a head-on collision. As a result of the collision, both men sustained injuries about their bodies. They were subsequently picked up and taken to the Suddie Hospital where Das was pronounced dead on arrival while Ali was admitted a patient. He succumbed a few hours later.
Meanwhile, according to Ali’s bother, he was informed that his brother was involved in an accident at around 22:00h on Sunday evening.
Upon hearing the news, he rushed to the Suddie Hospital where he was informed of his brother’s critical condition.
“Me nah went pon de scene when it happened, me went to de hospital…we heard that them went coming on the left-hand side and the car was going pon deh right and them come over pon deh car side…” the aggrieved brother explained. He could not say where his brother was heading at the time of the collision. The driver of the motor car was arrested and he is assisting with investigations.
