Cop under close arrest after Bartica accident

Three persons were injured following a serious accident on Tuesday evening at Bartica, Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni), which has resulted in a Police Constable being place under close arrest.
According to Police, the 22-year-old cop, who is stationed at the Bartica Police Station, was driving a private motor car around 21:25h on Tuesday when he collided with a hire car at an intersection along Third Avenue, Bartica.
The hire car was driven by a 54-year-old man of Canal Number Two, West Bank Demerara (WBD) and had two passengers, a 19-year-old woman of Dagg Point, Bartica and a 28-year-old of Haslington, East Coast Demerara (ECD).
Police reports revealed that the driver of the hire car failed to stop at the stop sign at the intersection, resulting in the collision. As such, the private car collided with the rear left side of the hire car, pushing it into a concrete culvert. The hire car turned turtle in the process. The driver and passengers of the hire car received abrasions about their bodies and were assisted by public-spirited citizens, who took them to the Bartica Regional Hospital. They were admitted as patients and were in stable condition.
Meanwhile, the Police Constable received no visible injuries.
Breathalyser tests were carried out on both drivers and both were found to be below the prescribed alcohol limit. However, the Police Constable was placed under close arrest pending investigation into the matter.
